Ethanol

Ethanol, which was the first commodity traded by Eco-Energy and continues to account for the largest share of the company’s business, is an energy source that offers exceptional potential for business growth and ecological benefits, as well. It’s a high octane fuel which, when used as a 10% blend with petroleum based products, delivers improved vehicle performance, reduces greenhouse gases and emissions, improves air quality and is bio-degradable. Made from corn, ethanol provides an energy alternative that is readily renewable, improves the nation’s energy security by reducing its dependence on foreign petroleum providers and supports the American farmer. Ethanol can also be efficiently produced; it has a positive energy balance, generating more energy than it takes to make. As addressed by the President in his 2006 State of the Union, the nation’s Alternative Fuel Standards implementation seeks to displace conventional gas usage by 20 percent by 2016. Ethanol can be a major contributor to the accomplishment of that goal.
